BA (Hons) Costume Design
Course: BA (Hons) Costume Design
Level: Year 1 (Level 4)
Key Focus: Advanced garment construction, historical research methods, and the application of contemporary design theory to character-led storytelling.
Module 1 - Production Skills and Processes: Technical Foundation & Construction. In this introductory technical module, Saskeya refined her skills in industrial sewing and garment construction. The project culminated in the creation of a bespoke waistcoat, requiring high levels of precision in tailoring, lining, and finishing. This module established her foundation in professional workroom standards and technical accuracy.
Module 2 - 3D Design Principles Character Reimagining & Half-Scale Construction. This creative module challenged Saskia to take a pre-existing character and reimagine their aesthetic based on a deep analysis of source materials.
Conceptualisation: She developed a unique visual identity for the character, bridging the gap between historical context and modern design.
Technical Execution: The project resulted in a meticulously crafted half-scale version of the final outfit, demonstrating her ability to translate complex 2D designs into 3D forms while maintaining scale, proportion, and texture.
Character: Jareth the Goblin King, Labyrinth 1986
